Axis MPEG-4 and RTSP stream types

 

Each camera has different options for the format in which video is streamed. Sighthound Video supports MPEG-4 as well as RTSP streaming. Unfortunately, however, Axis cameras using MPEG-4 over RTSP can generate initial image distortion (which is temporary) and frequent timeouts. This is likely a result of incompatibility between the Axis camera and Sighthound video streaming libraries, as other manufacturers cameras seem to work fine with this method. If you successfully set up the camera with these settings but see poor results, try using the MJPEG settings for Axis cameras, which can be selected in the Camera type menu of the settings screen of the Camera Setup assistant.

 

 

Axis 2410 video server

 

This product will not work with Sighthound Video, because it is an older model that does not support the same protocols as their current Axis models.

 

D-Link 2102, 2121

 

To run these cameras with Sighthound Video, customers have reported success with these steps:

 

  • Select Add Camera... or Edit Camera... from the Tools menu.
  • Select Other in the Manufacturer drop-down list and click Next.
  • If you selected Add Camera..., in the first step, you will see a screen asking you to choose whether your camera is already working or not. Select appropriately and click Next.
  • Select "Manually specify the address of a network camera" and click Next.
  • In the setup screen, select rtsp in the Protocol drop-down list.
  • Enter the IP address of the camera.
  • In RTSP port (optional), enter "554."
  • For the "Stream path," enter play2.sdp.
  • Enter your user name and password.

Geovision GV-VS02

 

Unfortunately, the GV-VS02 only outputs video at "QCIF" resolution (176 × 144). and as a result will not work with Sighthound Video. We have not tested other models.

 

Hawking Technology

Linksys WVC54GCA

 

If your Linksys camera will not connect on a secure Wi-Fi network, it may be because of browser compatibility issues. In some cases, a Firefox or other web browser may not successfully record the password that you enter. Try to enter the password using Internet Explorer.

 

Logitech WiLife

 

This camera is not supported. Sighthound Video supports a standard IP or USB video streaming interface, but unfortunately Logitech/ WiLife has their own proprietary protocol, and they don't make their video stream available to other applications.

 

Panasonic

 

  • ​BL series camera on Mac OS. We recommend using Sighthound Video to configure the camera, because Panasonic does not provide Macintosh software. Manually configuring this product on Mac OS requires additional steps because the camera does not request an IP address from your router by default (the feature may be called something like "be invisible on a network." It is necessary to connect your camera directly to your Macintosh temporarily, so you can access the camera settings that make it visible. Detailed instructions can be found on this website. Also note that there is a switch on camera to toggle between wired and wireless connections.

  • i-Pro. Unfortunately, despite searching the Internet and contacting the camera's manufacturer, Sighthound has been unable to determine the configuration settings required to access this camera. If anyone is able to successfully configure this camera with Sighthound Video, please let us know.

  • BB-HCM715 and BL-C230. Unlike most recent Panasonic cameras, these do not work under the generic settings for Panasonic cameras found in the camera setup assistant. To run this camera with Sighthound Video:

    • Select Add Camera... or Edit Camera... from the Tools menu.
    • Select Other in the Manufacturer drop-down list and click Next.
    • If you selected Add Camera..., in the first step, you will see a screen asking you to choose whether your camera is already working or not. Select appropriately and click Next.
    • Select "Manually specify the address of a network camera" and click Next.
    • In the setup screen, select http in the Protocol drop-down list.
    • Enter the IP address of the camera.
    • For the "Stream path," use one of the following (if one doesn't work then try the others):
    • /nphH264AACauth?Resolution=320x240 [try using the camera's software to set the video stream to 640x480 or 320 x 240 resolution]
    • /nphH264AACauth?Resolution=640x480 [camera must be set to 640 x 480 mode]
    • /nphH264AACauth?Resolution=1280x960 [camera must be set to 1280 x 960 mode]
    • Enter your user name and password.

These settings have not been verified to work, but according to documentation found online, should in theory work:

These cameras do NOT support UPnP, and therefore we recommend using the software that came with the camera to set it up.

 

StarDot Technologies

TP-LINK TL-SC3130

 

To run this camera with Sighthound Video:

 

 

In the TP-LINK camera's web-based management page:

 

  • Click Settings> BASIC > Camera > MPEG4 > Computer view
  • Set Viewer authentication to "Off"

 

Then, in Sighthound Video:

 

Select Add Camera... or Edit Camera... from the Tools menu.

  • Select Other in the Manufacturer drop-down list and click Next.
  • If you selected Add Camera..., in the first step, you will see a screen asking you to choose whether your camera is already working or not. Select appropriately and click Next.
  • Select "Manually specify the address of a network camera" and click Next.
  • In the setup screen, select rtsp in the Protocol drop-down list.
  • Enter the IP address of the camera.
  • In RTSP port (optional), enter "8554."
  • In Stream path, enter "video.mp4"
  • Enter your user name and password.

 

TRENDnet network cameras

 

These cameras cannot be automatically detected by Sighthound Video without turning on a setting called UPnP (Universal Plug and Play.) If you would like Sighthound to be able to automatically find the camera, it is necessary to go to the TRENDnet configuration website and find the UPnP setting. In the current version of the website, this can be found at Network > Network. Find the UPnP setting and click Enable.

 

 

Zavio

 

If you have changed the default port setting on a Zavio camera, Sighthound Video cannot auto-detect the port. It is necessary to manually enter the port in the settings screen of the camera setup assistant.

USB webcams

Creative USB webcams. We have found at least one model (the Optia Pro) where the Creative software driver conflicts with Sighthound Video. Uninstalling the driver and using the default Windows driver fixes this problem.

 

Intel PC Pocket Camera CS630 (a discontinued webcam) does not run VGA with the Basic version of Sighthound Video, even though it works in VGA with other apps. We have not found a fix for this problem.

 

Logitech USB webcams and Windows Server 2008. A customer reported that a Logitech USB webcam would not connect until he installed the Desktop Experience feature. It isn't clear if this problem occurs for other webcams.

 

Macally USB webcam cannot run at the same time as the iSight on certain models of Macintosh. If you disable one camera and reconnect the other, the problem is resolved.

 

Sony PS Eye is a webcam that works with the PS3. Some customers reported that they found a Windows driver that lets you use the PS3 Eye, but it doesn't work with Sighthound Video. One customer reported success using an application called ManyCam. If you download it and run the application, a ManyCam option will appear in the list of cameras in the first setup screen (disregard the warning about multiple applications accessing the camera).
