Legacy product note: Sighthound Video is a legacy product that is no longer under active development. It is available free of charge and community-supported. Sighthound does not provide regular bug fixes or feature updates. For critical issues, support responses are best-effort. Source code is available at https://github.com/sighthoundinc/SighthoundVideo.

Current mobile status: Android remains listed on Google Play, but visibility and installability can be limited by Android version compatibility. The iOS app is currently unavailable for new installs; resubmission was pending with no confirmed restoration. Push notifications are non-functional or unreliable for legacy installs.

Edition and feature availability: Remote Access and Mobile Access were historically edition-gated. Do not assume they are available in every legacy edition; Sighthound Video 7.0.16 Starter does not expose Remote Access or Mobile Access options. Use this article for existing installations where Mobile Access and Remote Access are available.

Prerequisites

  • Sighthound Video must be installed and running on the computer connected to your cameras.
  • Remote Access and Mobile Access must be available in your installed edition.
  • Remote access must be enabled in Sighthound Video.
  • For Android, install the Sighthound Video app from Google Play if it is compatible with your device.
  • For iOS, new installs are not currently available. Existing installs may still be usable, and browser-based remote access can be used as a workaround where Remote Access is available.
  • For local access, your phone or tablet must be on the same network as the Sighthound Video computer.
  • For access away from home, your router/firewall must be configured for remote access.

Sign in from the mobile app

  1. Open the Sighthound Video mobile app if it is installed and working on your device.
  2. Tap Sign in.
  3. Enter the IP address and port shown in Sighthound Video under Preferences/Options > Remote Access.
  4. Enter the login user ID and password configured in the same Remote Access tab.
  5. If you are on the same local network, use the internal address. If you are away from that network, use the external address after router/firewall forwarding is configured.

What you can do in the app

  • Cameras: View live camera images and open a camera full screen.
  • Clips: Browse clips by date and narrow results by rule.
  • Alerts: View alert history where the app and installation support it.
  • Settings: Access app settings, sharing, and support links where available.

Mobile alerts and push notifications

Do not rely on mobile push notifications for critical alerts. Push notifications are non-functional or unreliable for legacy installs. If you need critical notifications, use another alert path and test it end-to-end.

Troubleshooting

  • If the app says it cannot connect, first test browser remote access from the same device.
  • Confirm that the IP address, port, username, and password match the Remote Access tab.
  • Confirm that the phone is on the expected network, or that external port forwarding is configured.
  • Check firewall rules on the Sighthound Video computer.
  • If clips or live video do not load reliably on Android, see the Android mobile troubleshooting article.
