Legacy product note: Sighthound Video is a legacy product that is no longer under active development. It is available free of charge and community-supported. Integration status: IFTTT is a third-party service. Sighthound Video IFTTT behavior was last confirmed working in January 2023 and should be treated as legacy/unverified for 2024-2026 unless current authorization is confirmed. IFTTT interface, account authorization, plan limits, and service availability can change independently of Sighthound Video.
Edition note: This integration was historically available for Basic, Home, and Pro editions. Do not assume it is exposed in every legacy installation or in the current Starter 7.0.16 installer.
Use this feature to trigger an IFTTT Applet when a Sighthound Video rule or camera event occurs.
Terminology note: IFTTT now calls automations Applets. Older screenshots in this legacy walkthrough may still show Recipes, this, or that; follow the equivalent current IFTTT prompts.
Important: For critical alerts, use another notification path as a backup. Because this integration is legacy/unverified, do not rely on it as the only alert path for important events.
Getting started
To use IFTTT with Sighthound Video you will need to do the following:
- Enable "Send an IFTTT trigger" in the rule editor
- Create an Applet on IFTTT
Enabling "Send an IFTTT trigger" in the rule editor
Go to the rule editor for the rule you wish to send IFTTT triggers for. Select the "If seen:" block, go to the "Take actions" tab, check the box next "Send an IFTTT trigger", and click "OK"
Repeat the above step for each rule you wish to use with IFTTT.
Creating an IFTTT Applet
1. Log in to your account at https://IFTTT.com/
2. Open your Applets area. Older IFTTT screenshots may show this as "My Recipes".
3. Click the text "this"
4. Scroll to the Sighthound logo or simply search for Sighthound Video
5. Click Activate
6. Enter your Sighthound Account username and password to login
7. Click the "Authorize" button
8. Click "Done"
9. Click "Continue to the next step"
10. Select a trigger
11. Click the drop list to select a rule. If you chose the "New event from a camera" trigger you would select a camera from the list.
Note: Rules and cameras that do not have IFTTT enabled in Sighthound Video will not appear.
12. Click the text "that"
13. Select an Action Channel from the list
14. Complete the Action Fields. This example shows the Gmail options
15. Create an Applet title or use the default and click the final create/save button. Older IFTTT screenshots may show "Create Recipe".
16. Your Applet is now active
Troubleshooting and known caveats
- If a rule or camera does not appear in IFTTT, confirm that Send an IFTTT trigger is enabled for that rule in Sighthound Video.
- If Sighthound account authorization fails with a 500 error, use the Not you? option during authorization, then sign in again with the intended Sighthound account.
- The Sighthound Video test button may not show a visible confirmation even when a trigger is sent. Confirm behavior from IFTTT activity/history or from the target Applet action.
- If Applets are delayed or do not run, check IFTTT status, plan limits, authorization status, and Applet activity history.
- Because this integration is legacy/unverified for 2024-2026, do not rely on it as the only alert path for critical events.
