My Panasonic camera consistently drops video at regular intervals

If you have a Panasonic Camera (like a BL-C20 or BL-C30) and are seeing a very consistent drop in video at consistent time periods (e.g., every thirty minutes), it may be because you "Limit time of Continuous Motion JPEG" set to a time period other than "Unlimited." This setting causes the video capture to be reset every time the camera disconnects. For instance, if you have this setting set to "30 s," then you will notice that the video will cut off every 30 seconds.

Sighthound Video will detect this and try to reconnect, but such a sporadic connection will generate issues, such as:

  • If you're watching the live view, the video will cut out and you'll see the "Connecting" screen whenever the camera disconnects.
  • If you're looking at search results, you may notice that some video is missing. Depending on the conditions, it can take from (roughly) 5 to 30 seconds to reconnect every time the camera disconnects. This video will be missing.
  • If the video dropped while tracking an object, the missing video will probably be most obvious. An object might be moving across the screen and suddenly there will be a break in video
  • If the video dropped while objects weren't tracked, you will notice that your recently recorded video (the green bar in the search view) is broken up into segments.

If your camera is not dropping at regular intervals, see My camera keeps dropping the connection.
