Sighthound ALPR allows users to connect with the Zapier web automation tool.

Zapier provides the ability to interact with a broad range of online applications to create powerful workflows based on the license plate and vehicle analytics provided by Sighthound ALPR.  For detailed information on the capabilities of Zapier, refer to the Zapier website and documentation.

The sections below demonstrate how to use Sighthound ALPR to connect with the Slack messaging application using Zapier. There are many other applications available through Zapier and all will require similar steps to define how: When this happens… then Do this…

When this happens ...

  1. Create a “Saved Search” in Sighthound ALPR. and check the “Send to Zapier” option.

  2. Navigate to the Zapier page. https://zapier.com/app/dashboard

  3. Hover over the Dashboard and select “Make Zap” or “Zaps”

  4. In the search field enter “Sighthound ALPR”. Select the Sighthound ALPR application and click on “Continue".

  5. When you first create a zap that utilizes Sighthound ALPR you will be required to log in to the Sighthound account associated with your ALPR installation. You can log in by clicking on the “Choose Account” tab and selecting “Sign in to Sighthound ALPR” which will redirect you to a secure login page. Sign in using your Sighthound ALPR credentials. Once your credentials are accepted click “Continue".

  6. The “Customize Search” allows you to select the specific “Saved Search” from Sighthound ALPR to integrate with Zapier. Click on the “Saved Searches” drop down and select the “Saved Searches” tab and select the “Saved Search” you want to enable with Zapier. Click “Continue".

  7. Click the “Test trigger” button. Zapier should return that it found data. Click “Continue”.

Do this …

Now it's time to select the app which we want to integrate with Sighthound ALPR.

  1. Search for the specific app you’d like to integrate with. For the purpose of this example, we’ll be integrating with the Slack messaging application.

  2. Now, select an “Action Event”. We’ll be sending a direct message. Once selected click “Continue”.

  3. Sign in to Slack, you’ll be redirected to a login page. Once done configuring permission click “Allow”. Once complete click “Continue".

  4. Now we can configure a custom message. In the example below, we define the “To username” and “Message text” fields. “To username” will be set to a valid Slack username. “Message text” will include the “Make”, “Model” and “Event Creation Date” variables. You can view all of the supported variables by clicking on “Show All Options”. Click “Continue" when done configuring the message.

  5. Click on “Test & Continue” or “Test & Review” if you want to make any changes to the message. you should receive a Slack notification that appears such as “Ford Mustang detected on 2020-05-05T14:13:20.000Z” this is only an example your notification may differ.

  6. Click on “Done Editing”.

  7. You should now see “Your Zap Is Ready!” click on “Turn Zap On”.

  8. You are all set! You will see a slack message with the selected variables for each alert associated with the selected saved search.  You may repeat this process for any saved search sent to Zapier, and add further applications to your application workflow.
