This article will explain how to set up and use the cable gland sold by Sighthound to ensure that the connection to your DNN-Device remains safe in all weather conditions.

Cable glands are used in outdoor installations to keep the network connector from corroding and causing further damage to Sighthound devices.

To note- for outdoor installations, Sighthound devices are required be installed with cable glands to be covered by warranty.

Cable Gland Assembly

The cable gland provided by Sighthound can be found here. This cable gland will likely arrive assembled, but consists of 5 parts when disassembled:

  1. Locking Nut
  2. Locking Sleeve
  3. Body
  4. Gasket 1
  5. Gasket 2

Assemble this cable gland per the first diagram below and do not tighten the locking nut yet. This cable gland works by tightening down the body onto the Ethernet cable, as shown in the second image below.

With the cable gland initially assembled, enter a connector-less Ethernet cable through the cable gland. Crimp the cable once it has been threaded through.

Pull the cable so that the RJ45 connector sits into the space provided in the body of the cable gland.

Now, with the RJ45 connector in place, tighten down the Locking Nut as firmly as possible. Then, enter the RJ45 connector into the rear of your DNN-Device and tighten down the Locking Sleeve as firmly as possible.
