This guide will walk through accessing the RTSP streams produced by the DNNCam.

Exporting an RTSP stream from the DNNCam

If your device is running Core Services v4.4 or earlier, then there is no option to export an RTSP stream in the Web UI. In this case, please contact [email protected] to get your device updated.

In Core Services v4.6 and later, an option to export an unmarked RTSP stream from the device is available. This can be done using the Web UI, which can be accessed by navigating to the device's IP address in a browser. Log in to the Web UI (default credentials are u: admin, pw: baidnncam) and you should be taken to the Live View page. Here, you can select 'Streams' to open the stream options panel.

Here, you can specify the bit rate and port/route to the stream. Enable 'Export' and click 'Apply Settings' to save your configuration. Once exported, the stream will be available at

  • rtsp://<DeviceIP>:<Port>/<Route>

Specific Application RTSP Streams

While running, some of our analytic applications will (by default) export a 'marked' RTSP stream, meaning that it will have bounding boxes around the detected objects in the frame. These streams can be accessed at:

  • TrafficCounter: rtsp://<deviceIP>:8554/ds-test
  • PeopleCounter: rtsp://<deviceIP>:8554/ds-test
  • Mobility Service: rtsp://<deviceIP>:8554/stream

Connecting to an RTSP stream

We recommend using VLC, a free and open source multimedia player. It is available on all major operating systems.

Open VLC and make sure that your computer is connected to the same network as your Sighthound device. From the toolbar, click on 'Media'->'Open Network Stream...'

Enter the URL for the desired RTSP stream and click the play button at the bottom right of the 'Open Media Window'.

Note: if VLC returns an error, try again. Sometimes the stream won't open on the first couple of tries.

The RTSP stream should now populate in the VLC window.

Recording an RTSP Stream

When connected to an RTSP stream, use the toolbar to navigate to 'Playback'->'Record'.

The first time you select the 'Record' option, the recording will start. There is no indication from VLC that the recording has started.

The second time you select the 'Record' option, the recording will stop and be saved (by default) to the default 'Videos' folder on your PC.

  • VLC doesn't give an indication that the recording has finished. Navigate to your 'Videos' folder to find the recording.
